My first interaction with photography was retrieving past memories with my baby pictures. Since then, I started to use photography as a tool to record the amazing moments I see.
Being an admirer of the details of life, I am always amazed by the shapes and forms that’s been created under the law of nature. As Angela Abraham used to describe them “a bird flies on invisible strings, eyes trained on the grassland below.” The birds contain fascinating details in their daily life. The feathers in their wings are touching and neat. Similar to the gestures of a person displays the “impulse that exist inside,” when the birds extend their wings and “soar freely among the treetops and the clouds”, their gesture indicates powerfulness, cleverness, and dexterity. Some of these adjectives seem to conflict with each, how can a creature be both powerful and dexterity? Such is the beauty of the birds. When they fly above the skies, they use their power to fight against the obstacles they face with clever manipulation of forces.
However, as former Indian president, A.P.J.Abdul Kalam said “the bird is powered by its own life and its motivations,” the birds are natured to be free of will. Such amazing quality makes their wonderful moments hard to see. This spikes my interest to use photography as the media to share these great instants I witnessed.
When a bird opens its wings and ready to take a flight, it’s as if they are experienced piolets are ready to take out their aircraft with a state of art routine. My piece Winged Birds is an attempt of portraying the flight of birds with the flight of birds because there is nothing else that can show the movements of the winged birds other than themselves.
